Excluding the 19 hijackers, 2,974 people died in the attacks. Another 24 are missing and presumed dead. The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilians, including nationals of over 90 different countries.
The initial numbers are indelible: 8:46 a.m. and 9:02 a.m. Time the burning towers stood: 56 minutes and 102 minutes. Time they took to fall: 12 seconds. From there, they ripple out.

* Number of families who got no remains: 1,717
* Estimated units of blood donated to the New York Blood Center: 36,000
* Total units of donated blood actually used: 258
* Number of people who lost a spouse or partner in the attacks: 1,609
* Estimated number of children who lost a parent: 3,051

I really feel for the families - seven years later and it is still going to painful for those children and the spouses.
I was and am still living in NYC. Those numbers are still jolting to me. Your politics are different from mine but facts are facts and you are on it with this post.

It seems like it was just the other day when the terrorists flew those planes into the Towers.
I was getting ready for work, and sat on the bed watching the report of the first crash.
I then saw the second plane smash into the other tower, and I looked at my wife and said, "That was no accident."
Thank you again, for all the men and women who gave their lives that September morning.
