Hurricanes, the Coast, Tax Dollars?

It ain't like Willy don't have compassion or anything like that but in a conversation with Juanita down at the diner we got a little heated when Willy suggested that maybe all of these folks that live in major hurricane and flooding tendency coasted areas might want to move permanently.

Willy is tired of the whole world shutting down and millions of Willy's tax dollars (Willy does pay taxes) getting spent every couple of years to help evacuate, clean up, fix up and buy trailers that sit in Hope Arkansas with Asbestos in them for all of these folks that keep moving back in so that they can get flooded or blown out every three or four years.

New Orleans is below sea level - heck move somewhere that is above sea level and you want have near as much problem.

Willy could clue the US in on the fact for the money spent during Katrina, Rita, Gustav and any other name of hurricane out there could have built some real nice cities somewhere where the land dont flood and the hurricanes don't rip the walls down.

It ain't like Willy don't have compassion - It is sometimes that the redneck comes out in Willy and he just don't always understand.

Guess it would be different if Willy wanted to live in New Orleans instead of the beautiful hill country of the Ozarks of Arkansas.

10-4 Willy

I have been saying the same thing for years!

The exact same thing happens on the North Carolina coast, the outer banks.

People build luxery houses all over the small islands that dot the coastal line, then expect insurance companies and the governmet to come in and build them another palace whenever a hurricane blows through.

I 100 freakin percent agree with you.. You want to live in a deadly area, well then make your own nest egg for such things.

What ever idiot, decided that the land that New Orleans was built on must have also been into selling swamp land.. The person was a genius and all who bought are crazy.

I would never live below sea level.. Just pure stupid. Maybe that is why I live in Oregon.

Hell, we could have that big old Earth Quake they are always yapping about and I might have Beach Front property if a tree doesn't kill me first...

Do you think the same about people who live in tornado alley? Should everyone move out of California because of earthquakes. Don't answer that.

I guess it is home to those folks. I grew up on Turkey Bayou in Houston. The house survived through everything in 50 years except Hurricane Alicia.

What I object to is that our money is being spent in other countries and not in our own. The levees were not maintained and the Corp of Engineers had reported exactly what would happen if a hurricane of that size hit New Orleans. And it did. Also, there used to be a lot more wetlands and delta between the Gulf and New Orleans.

I do not know what the answer is, but I know its not Republicans. LOL

Willy don't mind folks living in swamp land that should never have been developed. Willy just don't want to have to pay every three or four years to help rebuild the levees that keep it from being a swamp land.

Tornadoes - can happen anywhere. The government does not maintain a levee to keep the wind away!

Yes - spend our money here and quit sending so much for humanitarian aid to countries that dont care about us!

Sorry, Willy is not harsh - just real!

Can the rich people stay? Rich people can afford to leave when a storm is coming so the the rich should be able to stay. Your tax dollars won't have to evacuate rich people, private jets and luxury cars will do that. Rich people don't live in those low lying areas anyway; the 9th ward flooded, not the Garden District. THIS IS OF COURSE HYPERBOLE!

Preach on, brother Willy! I couldn't agree more. I don't want to see anyone hurt or killed, but why should we continue to stick tax dollars into outstretched hands every time New Orleans gets its marshy ass kicked by Mother Nature

Common sense is not always politically correct!
