Willy wants to know - are we headed for the United Socialist States of America. Many people are saying that is what Barack Hussein Obama will do to us if he is elected President.
Willy ain't sure what Socialism is but that is what they used to say about the USSR. Weren't they a socialist Republic?

Socialism is already alive and well in America! President Bush, Henry Paulsen, and Ben Bernanke's $700 billion dollar bailout plan was nothing more than socialism for the wealthy.
Private gains and public losses.
The system is crooked.
Any elected official that considers socializing private companies with taxpayers dollars is NOT interested in protecting the taxpayer!
Hey Willy, in case you hadn't noticed, America has long had socialist tendencies. Social Security, Medicare, S&L bailout, Financial System bailout '08 -- these are just a few examples of socialism in America.
If you paid any mind to Obama's words (I know, silly concept), you'd get the idea that he's LESS a socialist than John McCain, who, after all, is, and has been, on the public dole his entire adult life. Did you know he receives disability payments from the Navy at about $90,000 a year? He's been "gainfully" employed for 40 years since. And his "I want to buy all the bad mortgages?" -- You think that's not a form of "spreading the wealth?"
Take another look at the candidates and you'll see that the black one is more American than the white old man.

And yes, we have had some socialistic programs for many years. Obama wishes to take it to a new level.
News flash!!! And the bailout, the thing made necessary because the Democratic Congress forced banks to make loans to people (most of whom had a strong association with the Democratic party) who were not able to make payments. 2 years ago, McCain pointed out there was a problem looming, but Democrat Barney Frank said it was not.
Who was correct?
And by the way, Congress has been Democratic for the last 2 years. When did things begin to go in the toilet?

Willy can't take the chance with Barack Hussein Obama - Whether either of them can take us out of the economic woes - I know that one of them will not be threatened by foreign powers and that same one will bust his rear to give us security here at home.
Willy is not sure that the other one will give away the farm at the least bit of threat.

What is the perseption of socialism in America, Willy? In Britain we currently have a Labour party which many perceive as a socialist party they won the last election. They stand for less taxation, fewer controls on investment in public services, such as health and education, and more support for business. They have brought in legislation that give pensioners extra winter fuel payments, free prescriptions, free eye tests. Health care is paid for by all people in work (they pay a stamp) this gives free health care to everyone. People get an 'old-age pension' which they can top up with private pensions if they so wish. We had a conservative party running the country a while back (you may have heard of Margaret Thatcher and John Major) we ended up with interest rates so high that many people lost their homes. The same conservative party sold off our oil, our gas, our water, railways, closed our mines and effectively damaged our health service. We also lost one third of our total manufacturing base.
We hear a lot about your political system - it is vastly different to ours. In our country anyone can start a political party and so we are tolerant of all different political views. Yours is a simple decision to make ... but before you make it it's a good idea to look at what you have - is everything steadfast? Is everything sound? Are the majority of people employed and if they are not employed are they looked after and kept safe by the laws of your land?
I can only speak from life in Britain only you know the state of your own economy and resources.
The USSR by the way was a communist state.
Some very nice comments on here. I would not want to blame republicans or democrats in particular billy. Seems so easy to do it must be wrong. Politics are very complimicated... It's just not that easy. A lot of them are wrong on both sides, and calling one side a bunch of names isn't going to fix the problem. That's fear mongering.
My personal view is that Robin Hood was a democratic socialist. He gave to the poor and stole from the rich. Now some people get mad and say that stealing from the rich is wrong! In this case it was justified because the rich has stolen from the poor in order to be rich. The majority (poor) stood up for themselves and socialized their lives by redistributing the wealth from these bad rich thieves. Children ate and men and women danced in the street. Everyone loved Robin Hood for leading them and helping them stand up for themselves.
Right now we need a Robin Hood because the rich Halburtons and Exxons have stolen our wealth and prosperity with lies and corruption. Even the King was in on it. Now he has to give up his crown and everybody knows that Robin Hood is gonna wear it.
Maybe calling this socialism is out of context. This old cold war terminology cannot describe what we are going through, but it makes for excellent fear mongering. The sheriff of Nottingham would have posted this on every tree along with a big WANTED sign.

I don't need to quote wikipedia, because I majored in government at a very good college and now I'm getting my MA then phD in English. So listen up all of you paranoid-fearful anti-socialists. FYI: democrats are not socialists. And the USSR and China failed because they skipped the crucial Marxist step in building a communist society, which is that you must have a capitalist system to produce a bourgeois in order to create a revolution. Socialism is not a bad thing, it is an impossible ideal: it simply believes that humanity should participate on a communal and social level, but humanity is too selfish and instilled with a Hobbesian will to power, so why don't you all just realize that health care and anything our DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC wants to do is not socialist. So what if small, greedy corporations are going to suffer? They don't pay me any money or help me in any way. The government will hire a lot more people and cover a lot more areas. I hope the next generation is smarter. Just get a grip and realize what is good for the overall people and don't be unreasonably paranoid, it's embarrassing.
